Where to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee
THERE will be plenty going on across Bromsgrove district in the next fortnight to celebrate HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee - here are a few things you and the rest of the family and friends could be part of. ? THE JUBILEE Picnic in the Park for residents of Bromsgrove's Oakalls and Parklands areas will be held at 3pm this Sunday (May 27). The free event, on the grass-land by the children's play area, off Green Park Road, will feature a variety of activities and entertainment. These will incorporate the Silkie the Clown show, a photo-booth, face-painting, glitter tattoos and Messy Monsters' arts and crafts. There will also be children's games, music from a string quartet and a tombola. The organisers would welcome any donations for prizes from residents, businesses or other groups for that. BRAINY Bromsgrovians can pit their wits in a Jubilee 1950s quiz at St Godwald's Church next Friday (June 1). The event will be held from 7.30pm at St Godwalds Church Hall on Finstall Road in Aston Fields. Teams of four or five are sought and admission, which includes a Ploughman's Supper, is £4.50. THERE will be plenty of fun for all the family at a Queen's Diamond Jubilee community tea party, which is being held at The Trunk in Charford, between 4pm and 7pm on Thursday (May 31). Among the activities will be a bouncy castle, face-painting, craft activities, a Samba band percussion workshop and music from the 1950s. There will also be chances for those who go along to win prizes by taking part in a tombola and in guess the name of the Jubilee teddy and guess the weight of the cake competitions. The event, that will also feature a wide variety of refreshments, has been organised by EPIC (Empowering People in Communities). The Trunk's lead development worker for young people Kate Higginson urged people to also bring along any royal memorabilia they had to show others. THERE will be a live band, a host of stalls, a wide variety of games, bouncy castles, community sing-song, It's a Knockout style games and even a Jubilee quiz at Lickey End First School's Diamond Jubilee Street Party and Summer Fair. Admission to the event, which takes place between 2pm and 6pm next Sunday (June 3), is £2 for adults and free for children under 16. Bromsgrove District Council's Civic Head Coun Janice Boswell will officially open the event at 3pm with a mass balloon release. Other highlights include tug of war, a bar, a barbecue and more. Tickets are available from Lickey End First School or Vicky's newsagents in Alcester Road. ? A DIAMOND Jubilee garden party to increase funds for Birmingham Children's Hospital, will be held at Stoke Prior Sports and Social Club, Weston Hall Road, a week on Monday (June 4). The bar opens at 12midday and the event will feature snooker, pool and darts knockout tournaments, crazy golf, skittles, a tombala, a raffle, a bouncy castle and a multitude of other games for children. There will also be horsey hopper racing and a pet show which people can take their pets to. Admission is free. |
