| ANIMAL NGO "KARMA" COMES TO RESCUE OF STRAY DOGS
While Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has failed to control the increasing population of stray dogs in city , a local Animal Welfare Association "Karma" has come out in rescue of these ancient Pariah breed of dogs who are dying due to injuries, diseases, road accidents and starvation. Sharing her experience about the stray dogs, she informed that they belong to "Pariah" specie, which is one among the three ancient Indian species of dogs and are better in many a ways than the other expensive dogs. Concerned over present miserable plight of these stray dogs, she said, "As Pariah dogs have high hearing power, high immunity and several other characteristic features these are best for guarding the houses. Heena Syal is associated with Karma, a local Animal Welfare Society and working in collaboration with "People for Animals" (PFA) of Maneka Gandhi"s Organization. "A dog is a dog, judging out of looks towards their selection is inhumane. While Heena seemed to be very much dedicated towards the cause of stray dogs on the other hand JMC is yet to evolve a mechanism to curb the growing population of stray dogs, as a result their number has crossed 20,000 mark, and is increasing with the birth rate of 20-30 percent per year. She picks up newly born puppies with the support of her friends or group members, brings them home, vaccinate them against common infections and organises "puppy adoption camps". Heena, basically an artist by profession, loves to do painting and now all set for the noble cause for rehabilitation of stray dogs. According to JMC officials, at the present time there are no procedure available with JMC to control the increasing population of the stray dogs. |
