| McPherson County Deputy Treasurer Cassie Becker Johnson has announced she will challenge incumbent Brenda Becker for the County Treasurer position. "If elected," she continued, "I look forward to providing leadership, showing confidence in my employees, commitment to the public, courteous service and continued dedication to the county. " . He "instilled in me the pride of taking on responsibility and doing any job to the best of my ability," Johnson said. In preparing to run in 2012, however, Johnson says her time as deputy treasurer most qualifies her to challenge Becker. Johnson, who has worked in the Treasurer's Office since 2004, is a lifelong McPherson County resident. She says she learned the necessity of local politics during county government day while attending Canton-Galva High School. "Throughout my years in the McPherson County Treasurer's Office, I have gained accounting skills and knowledge of how every transaction affects each element of our accounting system," Johnson said. After graduating from high school in 1998, Johnson went on to earn an associate's degree in journalism from Hutchinson Community College and a bachelor of arts in communications from Emporia State University. Before being hired as a tax clerk, promoted to bookkeeper and eventually named deputy treasurer in McPherson County, Johnson served as treasurer of the city of Galva, as a manager at Main Street Deli and as a reporter and photographer at The McPherson Sentinel.
