JOLIET — The Contractors Association of Will and Grundy Counties honored Senator AJ Wilhelmi with the "2011 We Build Will and Grundy Counties Award" on Feb. It was announced that Mike Adler has been chosen as 2011's Member of the Year. He has also been the Golf Chairman since 2001 and has served on the CAWGC Scholarship committee. Adler is a 1978 graduate of Joliet Catholic High School and a 1982 graduate of Northern Illinois University with a bachelor in Business Management. " He is vice president of JL Adler Roofing, an 86-year-old family business that was founded in 1926 by Mike's grandfather Joseph Adler, who passed away at the age of 39 and was one of the founding fathers of the Contractors Association of Will and Grundy Counties in 1933. After Joseph's death the roofing company was then run by Mike's grandmother Rachel for a long time then by their son, Joe Adler. Adler has been married to his wife, Joanne, for 27 years, and they have four children, including triplets. This award was established in 2000 and is given out periodically to recognize non-members who have made significant contributions to the construction industry with having county, state or national impact. Joe as since retired and has given the reigns to his son Mike and two of his brothers, Chris and Jay, who now run the longtime family business. He was appointed to the CAWGC board in 1999 to fill a vacancy and has been secretary/treasurer since 2006. Previous honorees include the City of Joliet in 2000; the County of Will; former Will County Board Member Jim Gale; the Three Rivers Construction Alliance; the Joliet/Will County Center for Economic Development; Jim Roolf; the Illinois Highway Authority; and last year's recipient was former Joliet Mayor Art Schultz. Adler is currently Construction Chairman for United Way, a board member and current president of George Werden Buck Boys and Girls Club, and Advisory Board member of the Joliet Junior College Construction Technology Program, and is the current chairman of the Chicago Roofing Contractors Association Safety and Health Committee. |
