Mills proud to 'just hold the baton' for Saints

Nick Mills credits words of wisdom from his gardening enthusiast father for his successful career in business and sports administration.

"I do not work for honours or thanks or accolades, I work for servicing my organisation and my city.

"My father was a really keen gardener and school teacher.

Nick Jr works tirelessly behind the scenes while Jordan plays as a shooting guard.

The Saints have won seven titles in that time with Mills also demonstrating a strong commitment to youth-focused community programmes. ' And that's how I've worked all my life.

Mills, who owned his own nightclub at the age of 20 before also branching off into basketball, said one of his greatest pleasures was being able to welcome his sons into the Saints fold.

"There's 385,000 people that own the Saints, all of Wellington. I'd say `what the hell are you doing that for Dad?' He said `it's easy son, if you do not put something in, you don't get anything back.

"So it's an honour but it is probably more of an honour for my family than for me.

"Always in my mind I wanted to do something to help other people," Mills said. " .
