Spruce up your garden for a fast home sale this spring
To help you kick-start your spring garden, the Ontario Real Estate Association and your local Realtor deliver the following pointers. For example, your local library or bookstore will have a wide variety of gardening books and magazines full of examples. Your local garden centre can help you choose a mix of perennials, shrubs and annuals which will provide continuous colour throughout the entire growing season and into the fall. The Internet is also a good place to check for gardening ideas.
You'll know it's time to begin on your spring garden once you see tulips and other spring bulbs come into bloom which means the ground is soft enough to dig.
Here are a few more tips to get your garden growing this spring – check with your local garden centre for additional advice:
-Prepare your flower beds by deeply digging the soil and adding composted manure.
A well-planned and maintained landscape with beautiful spring flowers will beautify your home and increase its appeal with potential buyers.
-Plant summer flowering bulbs such as Freesia, Gladiolus, Dahlias, Lilies and Anemonies.
-Plant annuals and vegetables once all risk of frost has passed.
If you don't consider your self a green thumb, creating a colourful garden is still within reach. Bulbs need their leaves to replenish food reserves for next year's flowers. It's also a good time to prune bushes. Many would also provide landscape design services free of charge provided you purchase the plants from them.
Keep in mind that garden centres are busy at this time of year, so it's a good idea to bring along a sketch of what you want your garden to look like.
-Plant perennials now and enjoy them for several years to come. |
