A MUSIC hub is to be created in a joint scheme by Halton and Warrington councils.

He said both local authorities have a fantastic track record for music education and have delivered many successful events.

Over the next three years the two authorities and musical organisations will establish singing and instrument lessons for all children and young people aged five-19 in this area.

The federation awarded Warrington's schools art and culture service an 'outstanding' grade last January.

A Halton Borough Council spokesman said one of the main benefits is that those involved can share equipment, staff and training while saving cash.

Halton's success has also been validated by the Federation Of Music Services moderation programme when it deemed Halton to have made 'good progress' overall while maintaining 'outstanding performance' in vocal work and 'outstanding features' in early years provision in March 2011.

The music hub's full range of services will be available from September.

Gerald Meehan, Halton Council's strategic director for children and enterprise, said: "This is fantastic news which means we can now provide a complete range of exciting and innovative opportunities for children and young people to learn and enjoy music and nurture their creative talent.
