Hotel Rates Rise In Birnin Kebbi Ahead Of Guber Poll

Few hours to the commencement of the governorship re-run election in Kebbi on Saturday, the price of food and hotel accommodation in Birnin Kebbi have gone up by up to 50 per cent or more.

Mr Emeka Okafor, the owner of Gesse hotel, told (NAN) that a standard room, which cost N4,000 in the past, had risen to N6,000, while the executive suit increased from N6,000 to N10,000.

Some hotels in the heart of the city, including Gesse, Modiyawa City Guest Inn and Safari, increased their room rates from 50 per cent to 66 per room Depending on the room size and services available.

Alhaji Abdullahi Malam, the head of a popular restaurant, said the increase in price was caused by increased demand by clients.

Similarly, a number of the popular food restaurants in the city increased the cost of their services, including food, from N350 to 500 per plate of food.

``We took time to renovate the rooms and provide the necessary conveniences for the comfort of our customers hence the upward review in the price,'' he said.

Okafor attributed the increase to the large number of visitors, who came as a result of election.

Meanwhile, the price of sachet water, popularly known as ``pure water'', and transport fares have remained stable.
