The bit of land next to the town hall parking lot is just bare dirt now.

The first Centennial event is scheduled for May 12.

A "memorial wall" is planned on which residents may place individualized tiles, available from the town, which could commemorate the people, families, institutions, and events that have marked the town's first 100 years.

The design will feature a 24-foot-diameter gazebo, and five-foot-wide, stamped-texture concrete walking paths in earth tone color. Grassed areas will be kept to a minimum or eliminated to cut falling the feed/water/mow chores.

Trustees noted concern about the highly alkaline soils on the new park site.

Money for the project can come from Colorado Lottery (GOCO) funds that are earmarked for use only on outdoor facilities and recreation projects, trustees say.

The park design is geared for low maintenance.

Weather is always a factor in any kind of construction work.
